How to Fix a Website That Keeps Loading Old Data
Troubleshoot stale pages, old account state, and websites that keep returning to an outdated version in Chrome.
A website can look current while still reading old state from the browser. Symptoms include an outdated account name, settings that will not change, a cart that reappears, a login loop, or an interface that does not match another device.
First determine where “old” comes from
Check the same page in a private window. Then, if practical, check another browser or device.
- Correct in private mode: regular-profile storage or an extension may be involved.
- Old everywhere: the service or account may hold the stale value.
- Correct after a normal reload: it was likely a temporary page or network cache issue.
Reload before resetting
Start with an ordinary reload. If the site offers its own refresh, sync, or sign-out control, use that next. These actions preserve more state than deleting site data.
Clear the affected site’s local state
If the problem persists only in your normal Chrome profile, clear data for the specific website. This can remove cookies and browser storage used to remember sessions and interface state. You will probably need to sign in again.
Be sure that unsaved drafts, offline work, or an active checkout are no longer needed. Browser-local content may not be recoverable after the reset.
Consider service workers and extensions
Modern web apps may keep offline resources or run background workers. A site-data reset followed by a reload often gives the app a clean start. If not, temporarily disable extensions that modify pages, privacy behavior, or network requests, then test again.
Chrome allows you to manage extension site access. Google’s extension management guide explains how to restrict an extension to the current site, selected sites, or all sites.
Escalate with useful evidence
If the stale state appears across browsers and devices, contact the service with the page URL, account identifier, time, expected value, actual value, and a screenshot that excludes sensitive information.
ResetSite provides a focused one-click reset for the current website when you have ruled out the simpler causes.
